Good: grass for tent, clean bathroom, warm shower, walk to microbrewery. Bad: noisy nearby trains.
Awesome views of Columbia River and Bridge of the Gods, yes you will hear trains as they pass campground, but being in the gorge and with tracks on both sides of the river you won't find camping that you won't hear a train from. Nice size sites in small campground, bathroom and showers look clean. It does get windy here, but didn't bother us; we were in a trailer. Plenty of things to do and see nearby. I liked it and will be back! If you don't like train noise stay away; then there'll be a spot for me when I come back.
Not fun
If you don't mind loud, earth rumbling trains going by in the night (bring earplugs!), then this is an excellent spot. Clean showers, great views, and romantic evening sunsets in summer. And there's a killer brew pub down the street. Altogether a great, simple jumping off spot for enjoying the Gorge. Leave a good trace: Buy a beer for the PCTers at Thunder Island! Free WiFi a bonus.
